TCFP Rope Rescue Technician

Develop the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to perform technical rope rescue operations in accordance with Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) standards.

This 6-week blended learning course combines online instruction with in-person practical skills sessions, allowing students to complete academic coursework on a flexible schedule while receiving hands-on training from experienced instructors.

Throughout the course, students will learn the principles and techniques required for safe and effective rope rescue operations, including rope characteristics, knots and hitches, anchor systems, mechanical advantage systems, rappelling, ascending, belaying, patient packaging, litter operations, and low- and high-angle rescue techniques. Emphasis is placed on risk assessment, scene safety, equipment inspection, operational decision-making, and team-based rescue operations.

The online component includes instructor-led modules, readings, assignments, and examinations designed to prepare students for practical application during scheduled skills sessions. In-person training focuses on developing competency in the psychomotor skills required for certification and real-world emergency response.

Upon successful completion of all course requirements, students will be eligible to challenge the applicable TCFP certification examination and skills evaluation process.
