Online learning with in-person skills

Prerequisites & Certification

Participants must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course and successfully complete the American Red Cross prerequisite swimming skills evaluation.

Prerequisite skills include:

• Completing a continuous swim–tread–swim sequence: 150-yard swim, 2 minutes of treading water using only the legs, followed by a 50-yard swim.
• Completing a timed retrieval event within 1 minute, 40 seconds, including a 20-yard swim, retrieval of a 10-pound object from a depth of 7–10 feet, a 20-yard return while holding the object, and exiting the water without using steps or a ladder.

Participants must also complete all required blended-learning coursework, attend all required in-person sessions, demonstrate competency in required skills, and successfully complete the required course assessments.

Participants who successfully complete all course requirements receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification, valid for 2 years.
